Parade Your Passion for Tennis - Baton Rouge Nominated as Best Tennis Town
BATON ROUGE- BREC and the Greater Baton Rouge Tennis Association (GBRCTA) have partnered to nominate Baton Rouge as the "Best Tennis Town in the Nation." On Saturday, June 13th over a 100 tennis players gathered together at The YMCA Lamar Tennis Center to "Parade Their Passion" for a video shoot.
The parade began with the St. George Fire Department supplying a fire truck for tennis players to climb on board with their signs and balloons. Tennis players chanted "Move That Truck" in which the fire truck was moved to allow tennis players to cross the bridge to the tennis center. Tennis players of all ages congregated onto the exhibition court for a "Best Tennis Town" shout-out led by Whitney Vann, host of WBRZ's 2une In and a tennis enthusiast.
BREC Tennis Manager, Yvette Marshall, who coordinated the parade, stated, "We appreciated all the organizations and tennis players who turned out for the event. We had a diverse group of tennis players participate in the parade including a wheelchair player. I believe we captured on film the true spirit of tennis in our city."
Judging for the USTA's Best Tennis Town competition will begin on July 1st and the top ten cities will be announced in mid-July. The top ten towns will have their videos placed on the Best Tennis Town website where the public will vote for their favorite video.
