Local Youth in Jr. Olympic National Tennis Finals
Sola Akinniyi, daughter of Muyiwa and Angela Akinniyi has advanced to the Jr. Olympic Tennis Skills Finals in the 8-9 year old girls division. Sola will be competing in the finals on July 23-26 in San Diego, California at the United States Olympic Training Center. Expenses for the trip will be paid by the National Jr. Olympic Committee.
Sola had been participating in the Open House Series at the BREC Capital One Tennis Center and learned about the local Jr. Olympic tennis competition from Ojo Thompson, BREC Tennis Development Manager. In May she won the local competition and competed in June to win the regional competition which qualified her for the national competition.
Sola is nine years old and will be entering the fourth grade this fall at Our Lady of Mercy School in Baton Rouge.
